Avoid planting them next to beans, Brassicas, or fennel. Pepper plants make good neighbours for asparagus, basil, carrots, cucumbers, eggplant, endive, oregano, parsley, rosemary, squash, Swiss chard, and tomatoes. Then transplant them into 15cm (6″) pots, bringing them into a warm room at night, about 21☌ (70☏). The Carolina Reaper Yellow is one of the hottest chilli peppers, in fact its value is 2,000,000 SHU on the Scoville scale, which makes it one of the most. For greatest possible flower set, try to keep them for 4 weeks at night, about 12☌ (55☏). Before they become root-bound, transplant them into 8cm (3″) pots. Soil temperature for germination: 25-29☌ (78-85☏). Night time low temperatures should be consistently above 12☌ (55☏) before hardening off pepper plants and transplanting outdoors. Transplant only when weather has really warmed up. Start indoors six to eight weeks before the last frost date, and grow under bright lights. Peppers need plenty of time to mature before they will bloom and set fruit. ![]() Please use extreme caution when handling the seeds and fruits! Be patient as germination may take 21-28 days or longer, even under ideal conditions. The Scale of Scoville is a ranking in which it gives a value expressed in SHU (Scoville Heat Units) to the spiciness of each single Chili Pepper, to understand. Start indoors early and use bottom heat and seedling domes to create the warm, humid conditions they need to germinate. The seeds can be difficult to germinate and they need a long, hot season to produce fruit. ![]() Super hot peppers can be somewhat challenging to grow. Please take extreme caution when handling the seeds and eventual fruits they produce. There hasn’t been any Scoville testing for the purple reaper, but I imagine it is equivalent to the Carolina reaper. The smallish peppers mature from green to fire engine red, and are gnarled and bumpy with a distinctive pointed tip some growers call "the stinger." This species of pepper can be grown as a perennial in warmer climates (or heated greenhouses), or brought inside over winter.
